Arnold also created, directed, and executive produced Nickelodeon's live-action comedy "That Girl Lay Lay."

Arnold died unexpectedly on Wednesday. He was 54.

"It is with tremendous regret that we confirm the untimely departure of David A. Arnold, our husband, father, brother, and friend," Arnold's family stated in a statement.

"David died peacefully today in his home, and doctors have determined that the cause of death was natural causes."

Insiders in the industry were shocked by Arnold's demise.

The comedy community "mourns the loss of one of the finest to ever do it," said comedian Chris Spencer, a longtime friend of Arnold.
