A 4.4 magnitude earthquake struck Northern California, no substantial damage was recorded.

According to the Santa Rosa Fire Department, a 4.4 magnitude earthquake in Northern California sparked a response from fire authorities over reported gas leaks,

gas odor, fire alarms going off, and stalled elevators Tuesday evening.

The 4.4 magnitude earthquake occurred about 6:39 p.m. PT and was followed quickly by a 3.9 magnitude one, as reported by the San Francisco Chronicle.

The epicentre was located 4.66 miles below the earth's surface.

According to the newspaper and the US Geological Survey, the quakes, which were felt quite far north as Mendocino County as well south as Santa Clara County, knocked pictures from walls.
